Live data is important and should remain clean!
We had a customer ask if there was a way to test some of the software features they had not used without impacting their live data. Yes, there is! You can copy files into a test folder some simple steps.
Use file > New data folder - to set up the test data folder.
Fill out a company name for the newly created test folder - add a "Z" as the first letter and it will show up out of the way at the bottom your company selection list.
Hit OK.
Tools> file tools and copy data from your live data folder into new one. With File Tools choose the Copy option and then Add Files instead of Add Folder. The files will be the Sage application file types (JC,PR,AP,AR etc.) DO NOT COPY Ts.ctl or Master.qym.
Add your new test data folder to the list of data folders available to open.
Open the newly created test folder and verify settings (posting settings, file location and formatting).
Remove file locations so you don't affect live data files with changes you make in the test folder.
-File menu > Company settings>File Location.
-File location window. clear any network paths in the data folder box.
-Hit OK.
